The performance was created in November — on the border between autumn and winter, at a moment of transition. The artist gathered grasses around the gallery, at the edge of Shuvalovsky Park, and made a nest-cocoon of them. Wrapped in it, wearing the kimono “The Path” — an object that has accompanied several of her performances and become a symbol of a long life journey — she embodied the earth in its winter state: not death, but gestation. Last year’s grasses do not die; they become a womb in which a new seed ripens. Inside this nest, the artist was reborn.
Earth in winter is not death but a cocoon: a space where past life turns into fertile soil for a new birth. November is a threshold time — autumn has not yet gone, winter has not yet come. This in-between is the place of transformation.
